Mr. Lucchese has been a medical malpractice defense attorney since 1975. He obtained his undergraduate degree from UC Berkeley in 1966, and his law degree from UC Davis School of law in 1969. He has represented individual physicians, and community and academic medical centers, as well as public entities in public liability cases.
Mr. Lucchese has tried to jury verdict 87 cases since 1978 in superior courts located in sixteen counties throughout Northern California, and in the courts of Northern and Eastern divisions of the federal district court. He has also completed over a dozen arbitrations of medical malpractice cases.
Mr. Lucchese has been a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates since 1988, and because of the high number of cases he has tried to verdict he achieved the rank of Diplomate for the last twelve years. He has been board certified in Civil Trial Advocacy by the National Board of Trial Advocacy since 1999. Mr. Lucchese has been a member of the American College of Trial Attorneys since 2001, and a member of the International College of Trial Attorneys since 2000. He has been listed in the Best Lawyers in America each year since 1993, and as a Super Lawyer each year since 2004. In 2012, and again for 2017, Mr. Lucchese has been selected by The Best Lawyers in America as the Lawyer of the Year in medical malpractice defense practice in the Oakland area.
Mr. Lucchese’s special expertise has been in the defense of catastrophic injury cases, particularly perinatal and neonatal brain injury cases. From 1982 through 2016 Mr. Lucchese has been a speaker, chairman, and co-chairman of conferences, mostly concerning obstetrical and neonatal brain injury, at 44 separate conferences around the United States.
Mr. Lucchese has been a member of the California Medical Legal Committee (limited to 70 medical malpractice defense attorneys in California) since 1986 and was president of the organization in 2014 and 2015.
